Wisdom
There was a time when the land was sacred, and the ancient ones were as one with it.A time when only the children of the Great Spiritwere here to light their fires in these places with no boundaries...In that time, when there were only simple ways,I saw with my heart the conflicts to come, and whether it was to be for good or bad, what was certain was that there would be change.
Instructions for Living
Lakota Friend do it this way - that is,whatever you do in life,do the very best you canwith both your heart and mind. And if you do it that way,the Power Of The Universewill come to your assistance,if your heart and mind are in Unity. When one sits in the Hoop Of The People, one must be responsible becauseAll of Creation is related. And the hurt of one is the hurt of all.And the honor of one is the honor of all.And whatever we do effects everything in the universe. If you do it that way - that is,if you truly join your heart and mindas One - whatever you ask for, that's the Way It's Going To Be.- Spoken wisdom by White Buffalo Calf Woman -
Prayers to Grandfather
O, Great Spirit. Whose voice I hear in the winds, And whose breath gives life to all the world, Hear me. I am small and weak. I need your strength and wisdom. Let me walk in beauty and make my eyes ever behold the red and purple sunset. Make my hands respect the things you have made and my ears sharp to hear your voice. Make me wise so that I may understand the things you have taught my people. Let me learn the lessons you have hidden in every rock and leaf. I seek strength, not to be greater than my brother, but to fight my greatest enemy - myself. Make me always ready to come to you with clean hands and straight eyes. So when life fades, as the fading sunset, my spirit may come to you without shame.
With all things and in all things, we are relatives.
Speak truth in humility to all people. Only then can you be a true man.
If you don't know where you are going, any path will take you there.
Guard your tongue in youth, and in age you may mature a thought that will be of service to your people.
